Creating a game in Roblox can seem like a daunting task if you’ve never done it before. The good news? We here at LogoLife have a complete step-by-step guide that will show you the basics of its user interface, how to add a few objects to the game, test it, and publish it to Roblox. Keep reading or follow along with the video to start creating in Roblox today.
Getting Started with Roblox Studio
The first thing you’re going to want to do is head over to roblox.com/create.
If you already have Roblox Studio downloaded, it’ll prompt you to open it up. If you haven’t installed it yet it’s going to give you the installation file where you can go ahead and get the download started.
If you select New in the upper left-hand corner, you’ll see all the templates that you can choose from.
To get started, select base plate.
To adjust the camera angle in the studio, use the WASD keys on your keyboard.
W – Forward
A – Left
S – Back
D – Right
You can also hold down the right mouse button to pan around the screen.
If you want to move your camera a bit slower, hold down shift, and you can pan with more control.
On the right-hand side, you’ll see the Explorer Tab. This is a very important tab to be aware of because it keeps track of all the components in your game (i.e. the parts, players, script, etc.)
If the Explorer Tab is not visible on the right side of your screen, select View at the top, then Explorer.
Starting a Project
Let’s get started with adding things to the game.
If you go to the Home tab, you can add a Part. A part is the primary building block of any Roblox game. The default is set to a cube but if you hover over the Part tab, it will give you a drop-down with options:
Block
Sphere
Wedge
Corner Wedge
Cylinder
For the purpose of this project, we’ll make a block.
Basic Controls
Drag the block around by left-clicking on it with your mouse.
If you want to move things around more precisely, then you’ll want to get familiar with the Move feature. If you’re on PC you can hold CTRL + 2 on your keyboard, which is the shortcut.
Now, move a part from one location to another using the move tool.
You can find other tools, along with their shortcuts, under the Home tab at the top of your screen.
Select:
• CTRL + 1 (For Windows)
• Command + 1 (For Mac)
Move:
• CTRL + 2 (For Windows)
• Command + 2 (For Mac)
Scale:
• CTRL + 3 (For Windows)
• Command + 3 (For Mac)
Rotate:
• CTRL + 4 (For Windows)
• Command + 4 (For Mac)
Play around with the block using each tool until you create something that you like. In this tutorial, I created a small rectangular block that’s floating in the air.
Testing the Game
You’ll want to test the game often when you’re creating it to ensure it’s coming along how you want it to.
To do that, you’ll tap Play at the top of your screen and you’ll become a player within your own game.
You can walk around as a player and see if the layout is functioning how you want it to.
In our game here, the block that was once floating in the air is now on the ground. Our character can walk on it and even tip it over. You may not want this though.
If that’s the case, you’ll want to Anchor your parts.
Hit Stop at the top of the screen to take you out of Play mode.
If you want to anchor any part or building block in the game, left click on the part, then select Anchor at the top of your screen.
This will ensure that your part will not move when the game is live.
As you can see here, we anchored this part and it’s now hanging in the air.

Test Out Your Skills: Making Dominoes
Let’s see if we can have a little fun here.
It’s time to use the scale and positions that we just learned to create a few domino pieces that we can knock over.
To do this, select the Part and make a duplicate by hitting CTRL + D, or on the left-hand side, under your Explorer panel, you can right-click the Part and hit Duplicate.
The explorer panel will show there are now two parts.
The duplicate will be in the same place as the original. Move the new part by hitting Move or selecting CTRL + 2.
Repeat this process of adding new Parts and moving them around until you have a series of dominoes.
If you want them to fall over like dominoes when your player interacts with them, go to the Explorer panel, select all 4 parts (hold down CTRL on your keyboard as you select), and hit Anchor at the top.
Since they’re all the same part, we can un-anchor them all at once.
Now, hit Play and go knock down some dominoes!
Hot Tip: Make sure you space out your dominoes enough so they fall down properly. Play around and have fun with it though!
There’s clearly a lot you can do as a beginner Roblox developer.
Even if you don’t have much experience with coding, there’s so much that’s already been created within the community that you can get inspiration from. The more you play around and practice, the better you’ll get!
Test Out Your Skills: Add More Elements
Let’s create a ramp.
Hover over Part and select Wedge.
Use the Scale tool to expand the wedge into a ramp. Make it as big or as small as you’d like. Creativity is key here!
Roblox has a plethora of different objects you can bring into your game, like vehicles, helicopters, trucks, planes and so much more.
You can access these by going to the Home tab and tapping Toolbox at the top of your screen.
Let’s bring in some vehicles.
After tapping Toolbox, select Marketplace and select a vehicle from one of the categories.
Use the Move tool to place the car how you want. I have the vehicle lined up with the ramp and now I’m going to hit Play and drive it off the ramp.
Keep in mind, your character is able to drive any vehicle you bring into the game, so play around, experiment, and most importantly have fun!
Publishing Your Game
We’ve seen how to add things to the game and how to test them out, now it’s time to publish your game and share it with your friends.
If you want to save the game to your server but not make it available to the public:
Select File at the top > Save to Roblox
If you want to save it locally to your computer:
Select Save to File As
If you want to publish to Roblox:
File > Publish to Roblox As > Create New Game
- Give it a name
- Select which devices you want it to be playable on
- Add a description of the game if you’d like
- Select Team Create if you want to allow other users to collaborate on this game with you and make changes
- Hit Create
And you’re done!
To share a link to the game with your friends tap the Social Share icon in the upper right-hand corner.
It may ask you to go to the Game Settings to make the game public. Tap on the button it provides and choose who can have access to the game.
Your options are:
Friends
Public
Private
Tap Copy Link and share it with all your friends!
When they click the link they’ll be redirected to your Roblox game.
